Vista Slope

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to make it out to the Black Mountain Trail this weekend, but I’ll get there eventually.

I did manage to go for a little walk just north of where I work. There’s a hill there that is appropriately called Vista Slope, since it gives a terrific view of the surrounding area. I’ve been meaning to bring my camera up there since I bought it, and this time I actually remembered to do so.

On the way there, I saw this curious vehicle sitting in the parking lot. It is apparently an electric truck: I’ve seen them around before.

About halfway up the hill on the north side, the trail curves up behind the Shoreline Amphitheatre, where I will be martyring my eardrums in June at Ozzfest.

Also at this section of the trail, I saw this strange scene. I would love to see this as a cover for a software engineering book or something — or better yet, for a guide on the STL.

The view at the top of the hill was pretty amazing, but unfortunately I’m a pretty craptacular photographer, so you may not be able to fully appreciate things from these shots. Also, I was constantly being distracted by amateur pilots — it seems like everyone around here owns the airborne equivalent of a sports car. Shiny things on land are enough of a distraction for me, so you can imagine how I react to shiny things buzzing around in the air.

Here’s the view roughly to the south. I managed to catch a small chunk of the Googleplex there in the middle:

And to the (sort of) east, I believe that one can see NASA headquarters, but don’t quote me on that. In my first week here, I stopped paying attention whilst biking one morning on my to work, and ended up at the NASA security gate, so I know it’s in that general direction.

To the (approximate) west… a big honkin golf course.

And to the north(-ish)… well, see for yourself.

Not too shabby.

Looks beautiful. I wish I could get to see some sites like that here in Toronto this time of year.

Hi Mike: I wish I had been there with you. Your photography is pretty good. Why don’t you do some of the Google building or is that not allowed. Wouldn’t want you to get arrested thinking you are a spy for the competition. Talk to you soon.

    Martyring your eardrums?
Although I have doubts about your use of the term martyr in this context, I do appreciate your verbacizing skills.
